The Long Wait for Fantasy Reads

You know that feeling when you're really craving a specific genre? For me, that's fantasy. I'm yearning for sprawling worlds, complex magic systems, and epic quests. There's nothing quite like getting lost in a good fantasy book.

The problem? The fantasy books I want to read are... lengthy. We're talking doorstopper territory. And as much as I want to dive headfirst into these immersive stories, I also have this nagging feeling that I need to catch up on my reading list first.

It's a bit of a dilemma. Do I give in to my cravings and start that massive tome, knowing it'll take me weeks (or even months) to finish? Or do I stick to my plan, read some shorter books, and then reward myself with the epic fantasy adventure?

Currently, I'm leaning towards the latter. I think tackling some shorter reads first will give me a sense of accomplishment and help me get back on track with my reading goals. Plus, it'll make the eventual dive into a long fantasy book feel even more satisfying.

So, for now, my beloved fantasy novels will have to wait. But don't worry, my pretties, I'll get to you soon enough. And when I do, I plan to savor every single page.

What about you? Do you ever delay reading a book you're excited about to catch up on other reads?

  1. I would give in to temptation...read the book you know you are going to enjoy.

    1. I should definitely be more like you because I feel like I am reading the books that will help me reach my reading goals instead of the ones I will enjoy.

  2. Screw your reading goals! Read what you want to read! Immerse yourself in that lengthy fantasy book. What book is it?

I have a similar issue with video games. I used to be able to play tons of RPGs like Final Fantasy when I was a teen and in my twenties. But turning 40 in a couple months (ugh), with a full time job and my own writing escapades to do, I can't play a full length 60-80 hour RPG. I want to get back into the Fallout series, but that just ain't happening.

    1. Yes agree! I have stopped trying to hit my reading goals and instead picking up books I actually want to read (especially with being a mood reader). Trying to hit a certain # of books by the end of the year is what started my reading slump in the first place. The book series I was mentioning here is the Poppy War trilogy but currently reading The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.
