Help! I'm Drowning in my TBR Pile

Okay, fellow bookworms, I need to have a serious heart-to-heart. I'm behind. Like, really behind on my reading goals.

Life has this funny way of getting in the way of even our most cherished hobbies, doesn't it? And for me, that hobby is reading. Between work, family, and other commitments, my TBR pile has transformed from a stack of exciting possibilities into a looming tower of guilt.

Every time I see a new book release, a part of me does a little dance of joy, and another part of me whimpers in despair because I know it's just going to add to the ever-growing pile.

I've tried various strategies to catch up, from speed-reading (which, let's be honest, isn't always the most enjoyable way to experience a book) to setting unrealistic reading schedules (which inevitably lead to burnout). But nothing seems to be working.

I'm starting to feel like I'm drowning in unread books. The joy of reading is slowly being replaced by the stress of falling behind.

I know I'm not alone in this. Many of us struggle to balance our love of reading with the demands of everyday life. So, I'm reaching out to you, my fellow book lovers, for help.

How do you manage to stay on top of your reading goals? Do you have any tips for catching up when you've fallen behind? Any advice for finding that elusive balance between reading and everything else?

Please share your wisdom in the comments below. I'm desperate for a solution (and maybe a little bit of commiseration).

  1. I know you aren't the only one, and i feel like the number one problem with setting goals is that most people set goals that are unrealistic. I don''t know what your life looks like, but mine i have a full time and part time job, plus a horse that needs taking care of, plus a book that needs writing, and a garden that needs tending, on top of the blog that I'm keeping.

Keep your goals simple enough to achieve. Whatever number you think you can read, cut it in half. Make sure any reading challenges you participate in aren't so hard that you can't easily find books for that you'll enjoy reading. Your TBR list is out of control? That's normal. You'll always want to read more books than you have time for.

Reading is supposed to be fun, so unless you're an editor or someone reading professionally, I wouldn't worry about a set schedule. I just read when the time is available. If I'm not enjoying a book, I swap it out for a new one so reading doesn't become a chore.
