Book Review: The Only One Left by Riley Sager

The Only One Left by Riley Sager

  Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I finished Riley Sager's The Only One Left in August and I'm still reeling from its chilling power. This is one of my favorite books ever, and I can't recommend it enough.

Sager's writing is both evocative and suspenseful, drawing me into the eerie atmosphere of Hope's End from the very first page. The novel's pacing is deliberate, allowing me to gradually unravel the mysteries of the past at my own pace. As Kit begins to piece together the events of that fateful night, I became entangled in a web of lies, deceit, and a family's dark secrets.

One of the things I admired most about this novel is its exploration of the human psyche. Sager delves into the complexities of grief, guilt, and the lengths people will go to protect their loved ones. Lenora's character is a fascinating study of a woman haunted by her past, and her interactions with Kit reveal a complex and enigmatic personality.

The novel's twists and turns are expertly executed, keeping me guessing until the very end. Sager's ability to maintain suspense and tension throughout the story is a testament to his skill as a writer.

The Only One Left is a chilling and thought-provoking novel that will stay with me for a long time. It's a must-read for fans of psychological thrillers and anyone looking for a gripping and suspenseful read. I wholeheartedly recommend it and give it a 5-star rating. This is one of my favorite books ever and a reminder to Riley Sager's incredible talent as a storyteller.

If I could give more stars to this book, I would, that is how much I loved it!

Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

  Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

One of the best books I have read, this book kept me on the edge of my seat! I could honestly say this could be one of my favorite mystery/thriller books, that's how good it was. Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn is a chilling tale of deceit, manipulation, and the dark underbelly of suburban life. The story revolves around Nick Dunne, a seemingly charming husband whose life unravels when his wife, Amy, mysteriously disappears on their fifth wedding anniversary.

As Nick becomes the prime suspect in Amy's disappearance, the media frenzy intensifies, painting him as a cold-blooded killer. But as the investigation deepens, it becomes clear that neither Nick nor Amy is the innocent person they appear to be. A series of cryptic clues and shocking revelations lead to a mind-bending plot twist that will keep you guessing until the very end. I had many assumptions and thought I had the plot twist but when I read the ending I realized how wrong I was.

Flynn masterfully explores themes of marriage, betrayal, and the illusion of perfection. The novel delves into the psychological complexities of its characters, revealing their hidden desires, fears, and motivations. With its intricate plot, suspenseful pacing, and unforgettable characters, Gone Girl is a gripping psychological thriller that will leave you  questioning everything they know about love, trust, and the truth.

If you are looking for your next mystery/thriller book, I 10000% recommend this one.
