My Bookish New Year's Resolution: To Stop Talking About Reading and Actually Read

It's that time of year again – the time for reflection, resolutions, and the inevitable "I'm going to read more this year!" declaration. I've made this vow countless times, each year a fresh start, a blank page waiting to be filled with literary adventures.

And each year, the same thing happens. I spend January waxing poetic about my reading goals, drafting ambitious TBR lists that would make even the most dedicated bibliophile weep, and then… life happens. Work deadlines loom, social obligations pile up, and suddenly, my carefully curated reading list is nothing more than a dusty pile of guilt-inducing paperbacks.

This year, things are going to be different. I'm not just going to talk about reading; I'm actually going to do it.

First, I'm ditching the grand pronouncements and the lofty goals. No more "I'm going to read 50 books this year!" declarations. Instead, I'm focusing on creating a sustainable reading habit.

Second, I'm embracing the power of small steps. Instead of feeling overwhelmed by a mountain of unread books, I'm going to start small. 30 minutes of reading each day. That's it. No pressure, no expectations, just 30 minutes of blissful escape.

Third, I'm going to reward myself. For every book I finish, I'm treating myself to a small reward – a new bookmark, a cup of coffee at my favorite cafe, or maybe even a new book (gasp!).

Fourth, and most importantly, I'm going to be kind to myself. Life happens. Sometimes, work gets in the way. Sometimes, I just want to binge-watch a reality TV show. That's okay. I'll pick up my book again tomorrow.

This year, I'm not just making a resolution; I'm making a commitment. A commitment to myself, to the joy of reading, and to finally conquering that ever-growing TBR pile.

Wish me luck, fellow bookworms! I'm going to need it.

P.S. If you see me scrolling through social media instead of reading, feel free to remind me of my resolution (and maybe throw a book at me for good measure).

P.P.S. I'll be keeping you updated on my progress throughout the year. Let's see if I can finally break the cycle of "I'm-going-to-read-more" resolutions.
